eDock: the software for marketplaces becomes an open platform

Written by Cristina Cairone | Aug 17, 2016 10:00:00 PM

SAAS means Software As A Service, a name that defines all the softwares that can be used with an all inclusive price for the service: the software, the hardware necessary to use it, technical updates and updates related to the functions.

eDock was a SAAS and now is a PAAS that is Platform As A Service.

Indeed, this app certificated by eBay and partner with eBay Italy became a platform, but what does it mean in practice? To explain that, we need to step back. Until this new change, every new function or change in the software (e.g. a new button that triggers a new function) was available for each user indistinctly. This, in some way, represented a strongness for eDock but, on the other hand, a weakness for a structure that could be defined as “monolithic”. For example: the inclusion of a new function of eDock could have been done only by the developers inside the DBN company.

With this change to PAAS, instead, the develop can be done by all the developers that have the desire to “extend” the platform with new functions useful to the users. In this way, it was launched the marketplace of APP inside eDock that allow to all the users to choose the extensions for their platforms according to their needs.

Today, among the APP available, three of them are really noticeable:

  • Esprinet Order Importer: that allows to the user Esprinet to “write” the orders of the items sold directly in the information systems of Esprinet
  • Zucchetti Synchro: allows to eDock to “talk” with the most known ERP in Italy
  • Magento Connect: this APP allows to integrate Magento with eBay through eDock.
